Two more souls celebrated

Two more souls celebrated

The past couple of days was sort of hectic in the Bosman household, firstly I suffered a bout of severe frustration about my current project, which is to turn an awesome discipleship course, that was written and created by Arno Claassen, into an online course. This frustration in turn caused tension as I was extremely agitated and tense. To such an extend that my wife decided to take the kids and go and visit her sister and thereafter they went to the movies. This was Saturday

I realised that God means for us to have peace in our homes, but that I was the one pumping with tension and bringing it into the house.

Sunday morning, we went to church and after church had breakfast with friends. I don’t know why, well I suppose I do know why, but the kids were naughty and just generally misbehaving and this caused more than just stern words when we got back home – creating an even more sombre mood.

I was troubled as I realised that the tension inside of me was starting to bear negative fruit on the ones I love. My wife was also dealing with something she is struggling with, and instead of being there for her to supporting her, I was preoccupied with my own doubts and insecurities.

I can’t share all the detail on this public forum, but it was just a couple of miserable days filled with more anxiety than usual and way more harsh words than was necessary.

During supper I announced that we will be going to the study after dinner to get together and spend some time with each other and with God to bring back the peace into our home.

In John 13 Jesus teaches us that we should was each other feet:

"Then He poured water into the basin and began washing the disciples’ feet and wiping them with the towel which was tied around His waist. Jesus replied to him, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but you will [fully] understand it later.” Peter said to Him, “You will never wash my feet!” Jesus answered, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me [we can have nothing to do with each other].” Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, [in that case, wash] not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “Anyone who has bathed needs only to wash his feet and is completely clean. And you [My disciples] are clean, but not all of you.” For He knew who was going to betray Him; for that reason, He said, “Not all of you are clean.” So, when He had washed their feet and put on His [outer] robe and reclined at the table again, He said to them, “Do you understand what I have done for you? You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you are right in doing so, for that is who I am. So, if I, the Lord and the Teacher, washed your feet, you ought to wash one another’s feet as well. For I gave you [this as] an example, so that you should do [in turn] as I did to you. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. If you know these things, you are blessed [happy and favored by God] if you put them into practice [and faithfully do them].'

JOHN 13:5,7-17,7-17

My son Carsten (7 years old) proclaimed with a smile “I knew you were going to say that dad”

While Mirinda was showering the kids, I placed some nice warm water, and to the utter joy of Annabelle, some pink bubble bath into a big transparent plastic bowl.

I ask the Holy Spirit to please minster to us and to help me bring back the peace. I asked Him “what scripture should I bring” While I was fetching the candles I experienced God saying to me to take all the round ‘ball like candles’ that was in the cupboard as well as the one long candle and place them into the big blue glass bowl that was also in the same cupboard. He said to me to read to the kids from John 14:20 and then explain to them that we are like a candle, the wax represents us, and the wick represents God in His fullness. Just as the wick is inside of the candle God is inside of us. Jesus in us and us in Jesus we are ignited by the Holy Spirit causing us to burn brightly and chasing away the darkness

' On that day [when that time comes] you will know for yourselves that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.'

JOHN 14:20

He then continued to tell me to gather Mirinda and the kids around the blue bowl and that we are to light candles for each other.

This being a prophetic act of passing on the Holy Spirit to each other.

The kids were done showering, teeth brushed and eyes sparkling like diamonds, they love it when we get together to wash each other’s feet. I suppose it means a lot to them if their big, strict and demanding father goes on his knees and, unashamedly, love their mother by asking her to forgive him for being impatient, and to please forgive the stupid harsh words that sometimes slips from his mouth.

After we had a little fun dancing and worshipping we gathered around the blue glass bowl with the candles inside of it.

I explained to the kids that we are going to light the candles for each other as a prophetic declaration that we invite the Holy Spirit into our lives asking him to guide us and fill us with His peace.

Firstly, I lit a candle for Mirinda while praying for her to be filled by the Holy Spirit and pleading the blood of Jesus over her, I continued lighting candles, each one representing something else, one for our marriage, the other Mirinda`s travel company the other for my ministry and the project that was causing all the distress.

Then I allowed the kids to each one, light a candle for their future spouses, I led them both separately, in a prayer Carsten, for his future wife and Annabelle for her future husband. I explained to them that they don’t know their future partners, but that God knows them and that He loved them since before the creation of earth. We prayed for their protection by the blood of Jesus and that they, Carsten and Annabelle and their future spouses, will keep themselves pure for each other.

By the Grace of God, I was able to convince the kids not to blow out the candles just yet, but to leave them burning while we wash each other’s feet

Jesus says in John 13 that we won’t fully understand why we should wash each other feet, but He also clearly states that He expects us to follow his example. To me the washing of my family`s feet is an act of pure love it is a confirmation that we are a part of each other. Bind together through humility and respect – yes, we have definite roles, I am their father, Mirinda is their mother they are our kids, I am Mirinda`s husband and she is my wife.

But when we get together to serve and love each other in the presence of the Holy God we all are children of God. God is not an accepter of the person – before God we are all equal

After I washed their feet, first Mirinda`s then Annabelle`s and the Carsten`s, the two of them turned on me like a pack of hounds clambering over Mirinda to also was my feet and to bless me in Jesus name.

While they were busy, I confessed to Father God that I was anxious about the project and my work and asked Him to forgive me for being doubtful, I prayed that I wanted to once again place my whole live and everything into His hands. I gave Mirinda to Him, I gave Carsten to Him and I gave myself to Him

As I was bringing our time before God to an end, Carsten stopped me. He asked if we could take pieces of paper and write all our fears on them and then set it alight with the candles. He went on to explain that by burning the pieces of paper with our fears written on them will mean that we are giving our fears to Jesus and that He will take it away from us.

It was at this stage that Mirinda and I looked at each other and knew that we are busy witnessing the power of the Holy Spirit.

We watched as Carsten wrote down his fears such as, one of us dying, or him losing a friend and one by one he burned his little seven-year-old heart`s fears away.

I joined in, then Annabelle (4 years old) came to me and asked me to right down her fear and she burned it – then Mirinda burned a fear……. By this time, we were almost creating a bonfire in the study…

After getting them to settle down and having extinguished, the almost fire, in the form of the candles and papers burning in the big blue bowl, we marched them of to bed. Mirinda with Annabelle to her room and I with Carsten to his.

Laying next to Carsten on his bed, we continued to discuss what just happened and I realised that he wasn`t sure if his heart truly belonged to Jesus. I asked him if he wanted to make sure and that we could pray together and ask Jesus to come into his heart and be the Lord of his life. He said that he wanted to make sure and that we should pray for him.

I called my wife to come and witness our son give his heart to God. While we waited for Mirinda he excused himself and quickly went to the bathroom

Mirinda came into the room knelt next to me and whispered in my ear “Annabelle just invited Jesus into her heart”

Carsten came back into the room kneeled between his mother and father and committed his life to Jesus

I am at a loss of words…….

' Praise the Lord!

Blessed [fortunate, prosperous, and favored by God] is the man who fears the Lord [with awe-inspired reverence and worships Him with obedience], Who delights greatly in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed.'

PSALM 112:1-2
